John J. Dvorsky, Sr., 77, of Route 171, Woodstock, CT, died January 12, 2010 at the Lanessa Extended Care in Webster, after a short Illness. He was born in Astoria, NY, April 30, 1932, son of the late Jaroslav J. and Alice (Behensky) Dvorsky.

John had made his home in Woodstock most of his life. His hobbies were hunting, fishing, cooking and gardening. He had a passion for history. His grandchildren were his greatest love and being part of their lives.  He leaves a daughter : Joanne Backholm and her husband Philip of North Grafton, MA; a daughter-in-law: Mary Dvorsky of Chapel Hill, NC; a step-son Paul Sivertsen and his wife Patricia of Woodstock; his grandchildren: Lizz; Ashley; Katie; Connor; Paul; Benjamin; Nicholas; Meaghan; a sister: Alice Russ and her husband John of Sarasota, FL; a nephew: Dr. Jonathan Russ of Newark, DE. He was predeceased by his long time companion Dorothy Sivertsen in 2002 and a son: John J. Dvorsky, Jr. in 2005.

Calling hours will be Saturday, January 23, 2010 from 10:00 to 12:00 PM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 Noon at the Funeral Home. Burial in Woodstock Hill Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Bungay Fire Brigade, 1256 Route 171, Woodstock, CT 06281-2139.
