Arthur E. Pepin, Jr., 86, of Thompson Avenue, Putnam, died peacefully Thursday, January 21, 2010, at his home. He was the husband of the late Alice L. (Hopkins) Pepin, she died August 7, 2007, and his first wife Norma (Kernan) Pepin, died December 18, 1973. He was born May 2, 1923 in Putnam, son of the late Arthur and Eva (LaGrandeur) Pepin, Sr.
Arthur made his home in Putnam all his life, a graduate of the Putnam High School. He was a US Army veteran of WWII serving in of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, he was honorably discharged December 8, 1945. In the 1950’s he operated Veteran Taxi Service in Putnam. For 35 years Arthur was an inspector for the State of Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles, working in the stolen car division. He enjoyed his trips to the Casino, his Atari and Gameboy. Arthur was a very private gentleman.
He leaves his son Roger Pepin and his wife Debora of Moosup; a daughter: Karen Clay of Alameda, CA; grandchildren: Robin and Derwin and great grandchildren: Payton and Brycen; his step-children: Harry Adams, Jr. and his wife Carol of Danielson; Betty Koski of Griswold; Charles Adams of Thompson; Marion Long of Putnam with whom he made his home; Debbie Krohn and her husband Holger of Thompson; his siblings: Richard Pepin of Putnam; Leslie Pepin of Canterbury; Doris Greene of Putnam; he was predeceased by a sister: Estelle Maynard.
Funeral Service will be Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, with a calling hour from 10 to 11 AM Thursday. Burial with Military Honors in Grove Street Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory to Hospice of NECT, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.
