Irene Polanski, 88, of Traverse City, MI, formerly of Brooklyn, CT, died Sunday, February 21, 2010 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions, Traverse City, MI. She was born in Chicopee, MA on November 10, 1921. She was the daughter of the late Justine and Peter Sokolowski. Irene married the late Roman Polanski on September 7, 1942. They made their home in Brooklyn, CT for many years. In 2004, she moved to Michigan. Irene Worked at Kamand Aircraft, Southern Doors, and Glass Containers where she retired in January 1983. 

She is survived by three daughters; Nancy (Paul) Woods of Ft. Mill, SC; Frances (Michael) Stachura of Brooklyn, CT; Mary Ann (James) Pierce of Traverse City, MI. She is also survived by a sister, Justine (David) Detar of Lady Lake, FL. She was predeceased by a brother, Francis Sokolowski. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Calling Hour  will be Saturday, February 27, 2010 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson, with a Prayer Service at 12 Noon. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Danielson. In lieu of flowers, the family in requesting that donations be made to: Commission on Aging, 520 Front Street, Traverse City, MI 49684.
