Mary E. Chase, 79, of Thayer Street, Putnam, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. She was the beloved wife of the late George L. Chase, Jr., he died December 14, 1994. Born June 7, 1931 in Wauregan, daughter of the late Chester and Eleanor (Egan) Caouette.

She was a secretary at Putnam Hertzel, Crabtree and Evelyn and other local companies. She was a member of the Putnam Housing Board and had served as Treasurer. She also was a cook at the Dempsey Regional Center and the Pomfret School. She enjoyed knitting and making things for her family. She was a loving mother and grandmother and always had time for her family.

She leaves her children: William Chase of Putnam; Steven Chase of Putnam; Brian Chase of Woodstock; James Chase of East Putnam; Elizabeth Gaudreau of Danielson, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Margaret Roy.
