Mae Vandall

Obituary of Mae Vandall

On Thursday, April 27, 2017 the gentle soul of Mae S. Vandall was released from her frail body after a 12 year battle with Alzheimer's at Matulaitis Nursing Home.
Born Mae Louise Stone on August 19, 1925, she was the only daughter of Charles and Amy (Harrington) Stone.
She graduated in 1943 from Killingly High School, and worked at Acme Cotton where she rolled bandages for the war effort and also at Putnam News. It was here that she met the man who was to become her loving husband, Raynold A. Vandall. They were married on August 23, 1945, in St. Anne's Church in Ballouville, CT. Their union produced two adoring daughters, Linda Lee and Kathleen Joy, both of whom survive her.
During her years as devoted wife and caring mother, she worked for a time on second shift at Willimantic Thread and later for many years at Fisher's Big Wheel near her home in East Brooklyn. Sadly, after only 46 years of marriage Ray was taken from her after a long, courageous battle with many forms of cancer. In addition, she was predeceased years earlier by her two brothers Roy who lived in California and Claude Stone, from Iowa. As well as her two daughters, survivors include Linda's caring and supportive husband, Michael F. Clements from Putnam, CT and their children, Kenneth, living in Germany; Jeffrey living in Dayville, CT; Brenda Joubert also residing in Dayville, CT; Kathy's son, Nathan Pelletier and her daughter April and husband Gerry Hartling of Marlborough, MA; Mae's great grandchildren include Melanie Clements of Germany; Cherilyn Clements of Killingly; Trent Joubert-Clements of Brooklyn; Trista Joubert Provost of Brooklyn, CT., Amalia Hartling of Marlborough and Sebastian Pelletier, address unknown. Mae was also blessed with three great great granddaughters: Cherilyn's daughters, Ava and Rylee; and Trista's daughter, Dakota Mae.
Two sisters-in-law, Arlene Vandale Lester Morkis and Lucille Dumas Vandale, many nieces and nephews share in our loss.
"Do not stand at my grave and weep, I am not there, I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow; I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain; I am the gentle autumn rain. Do not stand at my grave and cry. I am not there; I did not die." (Author unknown) "Grieve not, but rather find strength in what remains behind."
Mae wished to be cremated with no calling hours or services. Her wishes will be carried out. Burial will be private. If anyone would like to make a donation in her memory the Alzheimer's Association, 200 Executive Boulevard, Suite 4B, Southington, CT 06489, would be our suggestion. Arrangements entrusted to Smith and Walker Funeral Home, Putnam, CT. Share a memory at www.smithandwalkerfh.com
