Obituary of Norma J. Brandt

Norma J. Brandt, 63 of Pomfret Center, CT died Monday after a long illness, at Massachusetts General Hospital while awaiting heart transplant surgery. She was the beloved wife of John O. Brandt, Jr., they were married July 2, 1963 in the Abington Congregational Church. She was born January 4, 1942, daughter of the late Joseph and Marion (Green) Ponzi. She was a 1963 graduate of the Hartford Hospital School of Nursing, and lived in Pomfret most of her life. She was an active member of the Abington Congregational Church in Abington and served the Church as Clerk, Deacon and was a member of the church choir. A great love of Normas was being a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Betty Putnam Chapter 106, Woodstock, she served as Worthy Matron for 10 terms and was a State Officer, she was a Royal Matron of the Rainbow Court, Order of the Amaranth in Willimantic, Norma was well known throughout New England. She enjoyed traveling throughout the State, Country and meeting fellow Masonic family members. She enjoyed knitting, playing the organ and the accordion. She leaves in addition to her husband: a brother, Joseph Ponzi, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of Danielson; a sister-in-law, Lois Brandt of Pomfret; an aunt and uncle, Margaret and Elwin Brown of Walden, VT. A Memorial Service will be March 19th (Saturday) at 11:00 AM at the Abington Congregational Church, Hampton Road, (Route 97), Abington, Burial in the Abington Cemetery at a later date. No calling hours. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Pomfret Ambulance Fund, c/o Gary Ayers, 852 Hampton Road, Pomfret Center, CT 06259.
