Obituary of Frances Warren Latham Black

Frances Warren Latham Black, formerly of Sherman Road in Woodstock, passed away on April 27, 2005 in Brunswick, Maine. Born on April 28, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Oliver W. and Florence (Warren) Latham of Eastford. Mrs. Black attended school in Eastford and graduated from The Woodstock Academy. She attended Arnold College and then transferred to the University of Connecticut at Storrs. After graduation, she worked as a Biology teacher in Plainville and later in Southbridge, Massachusetts. On July 27, 1946, she married Lewis S. Black of Flushing, New York. She resided in Bayside, in Queens, New York from 1950 to 1980. She was employed by the State of New York Employment Service as a job counselor. Her office was located in Bayside High School and she concentrated on finding employment for high school students either part-time or full-time after graduation. She retired in 1980 and she and her husband built their retirement home in Woodstock. She moved to Maine in 2004 to be closer to her daughter. Mrs. Black was active in Girl Scouts and held the position of district leader. An avid reader, she loved books of every description. She thoroughly enjoyed reading the New York Times every day. She was pre-deceased by her husband of 54 years in 2000. She leaves her sister, Susan L. Clark of Loveland, Colorado and two daughters, Diana Perkins of Topsham, Maine and Ellen Hodos of Washoe Valley, Nevada. Her grandsons are Matthew Perkins and Steven Perkins of Topsham, Maine and Mark Hodos of Greenwich Village, New York.
