Obituary of Robert Leo Campbell, Sr.

Robert Leo Campbell, Sr., 68 of Woodstock Avenue, Putnam died Wednesday at the Day Kimball Hospital, Putnam, after a brief illness surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Odena (Audette) Campbell, they were married October 25, 1958. Robert was born November 19, 1936 in Cambridge, MA, son of the late John and Mary (Murphy) Campbell. He was employed at the former Putnam Hertzel for over 20 years, he also worked at Windham Container, The Fair, and in 1999 retired from Brooks Distribution Center in Dayville. He was a former member of the Putnam Fire Department. He was honorably discharged in 1957 from the US Marines, a veteran of the Korean War. Robert was an avid Red Sox fan, and he loved to go fishing and enjoyed painting pictures. He was a coach and manager for several years with the Putnam Little League Baseball. He was a communicant of ST Mary Church of the Visitation. He was a loving and caring husband, father, brother and grandfather. He leaves in addition to his wife; two sons: Robert Campbell, Jr. and his wife Christine of Putnam, Michael Peach Campbell of Woodstock, two daughters: Donna Young and her husband Doug of Woodstock, Karen Paquette and her husband Chandler of Woodstock, two brothers: Charles Campbell of Thompson, Paul Campbell of Mechanicsville, four sisters: Lorraine Fafard of Thompson, Ann Lapointe of Thompson, Gloria Comtois of Danielson, Gail Groh of Danbury, 10 grandchildren, 12 nieces and nephews, he was predeceased by his mother Alice Campbell and a brother: Jackie Campbell. The Funeral wil be Friday at 10:00 AM from the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam. A calling hour will be Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial in ST Mary Cemetery, Putnam with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Hospice Of Northeastern Connecticut, P.O. Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260 or St. Marys Restoration Fund, 218 Providence Street, Putnam, CT 06260.
