I came to know John when I started working at Staples back in November of 2004. He was my supervisor and thought he seemed like a pretty nice guy. Then in the next six months I grew to know more about him, his loving wife, and there three children he adored, and would have done anything for. He always treated me with respect, and if I ever had a problem he was there for me. He was the most caring, sincere, and just your all around nice guy I have ever met in my life. Why God would choose to take someone like this from our world I will probably never understand. There`s a big part of us missing here on third shift.John made it easy for us to come to work. He was the most laid back guy I`ve ever met. I realized the other night that he was the person I talked to the most. Maybe because he was such a good listener. I refer to him as my guidance counselor. I also have three children at home and work this shift to be there for my family during the day. John knew where I was coming from and assured me some day it would get better. We exchanged stories of our children quite often.I know how much his family meant to him and that he gave the best years of his life here at Staples just so he could be there for his wife and kids. He made me feel smart when he asked for my spelling of words and I would let him practice his stand up comedy on me. I will miss him dearly. He was a friend to all of us. I was not lucky enough to know John a long time. I starting working with John around March/April and did spend some time with him. We had a few meetings and I would see or hear him just about each morning before he would leave for home or golf. He would always have a huge smile on his face and would leave the office while others smiled at his presence. He was certainly someone I knew was making a positive impact on those he worked around. You could tell that John gave energy to others and took none. One co-worker mentioned how she would say, "You know I love you John." And John would reply, "What's not to love!" He was so right. Stories were told about how some members of John's team would yell at him to get something of their chests. After they were through venting he would say, "Do you feel better now?" I am sure everyone who knew him could picture the look on his face as he asked this question. I bet it was a big ol' smile with a hint of the question, "Is that all you got?" Even the new folks that worked with John were clearly touched by his presence. He was a class act, a 'one and only', a friend and father to so many. He will be missed. I only wish I could have known him longer but I am thankful that I had the Privilege of knowing John the short time I did. It was an honor.
