Because his work and friendship touched so many people, Jeff left his mark everywhere. Photos of weddings and family gatherings are hanging on living room walls; pictures of major events are on display in private offices and hospital buildings. The touches are everywhere, because Jeff was seemingly everywhere.
I've known him for 42 years, since I was an intern at the Norwich Bulletin and he helped show me the ropes. Jeff's main lessons, taught by doing not just speaking, are good ones, and not just for reporters or photographers: Be friendly, remain curious, know that everyone has a story to tell. Oh, and: Never lose your sense of wonder.
Jeff was a photojournalist to the core. It actually was not what he did (a profession), but who he was (a calling). We will all miss him terribly, but we can cherish the thousands of memories -- the images he shared. And remember those lessons.
Rest in peace, good friend.
