Linda Celina (Savoie) Basehore, went home to our Lord and Savior on February 15, 2025 at her home in Danielson, Connecticut following a brief battle with abdominal cancer. She was 76. Born July 9, 1948, Linda was the first daughter to Victorin and Eva (Morin) Savoie. Victorin was a well-known cobbler in Danielson and was active in the community.
Throughout Linda’s childhood, she was surrounded by family, including many aunts, uncles and cousins from the Savoie and Morin clans. After losing her sense of hearing at a young age, Linda began attending the Mystic Oral School in Mystic, CT starting at age 5, where she was taught lip reading. In 1964, Linda transferred to the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, where she learned American Sign Language (ASL). She excelled at her studies and advanced two grade levelsshortly after arriving at the school. After graduation, Linda moved to Billerica, MA and was employed by the Mitre Corporation with a focus on data entry in the IT department.
On August 21, 1976, Linda married Robert I Basehore. Together, Linda and Robert moved to St. Petersburg, Florida and welcomed their first son Mark in 1977, followed by a second son, Matthew in 1981. In 1982, the family returned to CT and Linda’s family home in Danielson. A devoted daughter, Linda cared for her mother Eva until her passing in 2000.
Linda was a joyful soul who loved to laugh and had a mischievous sense of humor. She liked to tease and was known for her big smile and twinkling eyes. A faithful friend, Linda enjoyed lifelong friendships with classmates from her school days and later through her church family. Both Linda and Robert were devout Christian Baptists and were active attendees of Tri-State Baptist Church in North Grosvenor Dale, CT. Linda found comfort in her faith and believed in the power of prayer.
Linda had a tenacious spirit and lived her life boldly and with confidence. She was a fierce advocate for the deaf and was invited to testify at the CT legislature twice to improve interpretation services for the deaf and hard of hearing in hospitals. Although Linda spent much of her life as a mother and caregiver, she took great pride as a volunteer mentor for young deaf people who were leaving home for the first time. She provided her mentees with guidance on how to live independently and how to communicate effectively in a hearing world. Linda loved to help others learn ASL and taught many of her fellow Tri-State Baptist parishioners how to sign.
Linda was an avid gardener and looked forward to each growing season. She loved to sew, knit and crochet. Both Linda and Robert were passionate fans of the UCONN men’s and women’sbasketball teams.
