Obituary of Alma Mayo

Alma M. Mayo “Mudgie”, 84 of Putnam died Monday, June 23, 2025 at her home in Putnam. Wife of the late George G. Mayo, Sr., he died in 2014. She was born in Pomfret July 22, 1940, daughter of the late William and Aldea (Lamille) Fitts.

She was an avid bird watcher, enjoyed crocheting and most of all spending time with her family. Mudgie worked as a Spinner at Hales Manufacturing Co. and worked at the Rectory School in Pomfret. She was a volunteer with the Daily Bread at the Living Faith United Methodist Church in Putnam.

She leaves her children George G. Mayo, Jr. (Sandy) of Pomfret, Bruce R. Mayo (Faith) of Putnam, Darlene M. Murray of Putnam, Todd N. Mayo of Putnam, siblings Lawrence Fitts (Joan) of East Killingly and Perne Barnes (Lloyd) of Stafford Springs, 28 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and ten great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her children Lloyd F. Mayo, Audrey Weatherholt and Leo Mayo.

A Graveside service will be Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 10:00 AM in Abington Cemetery in Pomfret. Calling hours will be Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. Share a memory at Smithandwalkerfh.com
