Obituary of Frank M. Murray

Frank Maurice Murray, 100, passed away peacefully at Pierce Memorial Baptist in Brooklyn Ct. on August 25 2025.  Frank was born June 18th 1925 in Abington Ct. to the late Edward and Addie Murray.  Frank attended schools in Abington, Putnam and the then Putnam Trade School before enlisting in 1943.  Frank was a WWII veteran having served in the Italian theater as a combat infantryman and was awarded several campaign ribbons and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge (CIB).  After the war Frank continued serving in the National Guard in both infantry and MP units until 1959.  In 1945 he married the late Helen (Nachyly) Murray who passed away in 1983.  Frank and Helen resided in the Goodyear, now Rogers Ct., and together they had four children who all survive them.  Helen Richardson (David) of Woodstock Ct., Janice Allsworth (Charles) of Situate R.I., John Murray (Shirley) of Danielson Ct., and Richard Murray (Kathy) of Brooklyn Ct.  In 1984 Frank married Doris Pope of Voluntown Ct.  Frank and Doris were married 27 years until her passing in 2011.  A step daughter, Nancy Douglass of Lebanon Ct. also survives him.  In 2013 Frank moved to Putnam Ct. to be close with his dear friend Faith Johnson with whom he shared ten years and many travel adventures with the Plainfield Seniors before her passing in 2023.  In addition to his four children and step daughter, Frank leaves eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Frank lived a full 100 years, in addition to being a husband and father he enjoyed many careers; ran a livery business, was an over the road trucker driving for Nukala trucking for many years, was a great mechanic running a gas station and repair business, and later as a mechanic/millwright/electrician for Delta Rubber and lastly Rogers Corporation before “retiring”, temporarily, in 1987 and then going part-time working with Mervin Whipple in cemetery maintenance for another 20+ years.  A full life indeed.  He will be missed

Calling hours will be held Friday, August 29, 2025 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street Putnam, CT. A Funeral service will be at the Funeral Home on Saturday, August 30, 2025 at 10:00 AM followed by burial with Military Honors at Holy Cross Cemetery Danielson, CT.
