To Carolyn and family. I send my condolences and prayers to all of you during this difficult time. Caring for George, your husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather was an honor and a blessing at the same time. I always looked forward to Mondays and Thursdays to be with him and Carolyn. From his quiet demeanor and silence, I learned that words matter, and they are powerful when spoken. George did not waste any, he would carefully choose his, and you knew that they were precious whenever he spoke. Engaging in conversation with him was always a delight when he would reminisce about his childhood days. I feel deeply honored to have had the privilege to help care for him for the past two years. I will miss him dearly. Rest in peace George.

On behalf of Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, its faculty, staff, and students, I would like to pass on our condolences for the passing of George. Although I did not meet him personally, I have heard much about the role the he played in the development of Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine.
The practice that George developed in 1971 became part of Tufts in 1981 and has been a critical part of our teaching program and supporting rural animal owners in Connecticut ever since. George's leadership and compassion were well recognized traits. George's practice, now known as Tufts Veterinary Field Service, has grown to 12 veterinarians and has had over 1200 students pass through during their training.
I have attached one of the early photos of George after he joined Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University.

My sincere condolences to Dr. Looby's entire family , Dr.Looby was my vet in the 70's.. He took great care of my Irish Setter.....wonderful person , wonderful vet. I always wished he would have continued taking care of dogs vs large farm animals . He was just great & irreplaceable. Years later he appeared as a help / covering for Dr. Smith. I had a Wheaton Terrier and he shared his Wheaton Terrier experience which included his wife & family . He was a wonderful funny, competent vet . A life well lived !! I was so grateful I was able to know him . He was such an inspiration .

To George's family: I am so sorry for your loss. Whenever I see the Looby name I know we have lost another cousin because I have worked on the family genealogy for years since my Aunt Alberta Looby got me involved. I heard 'Bud's' name often from Berta and my Mom, Anne Looby Roberts. Their dad was Charles Looby so Bed was their 1st cousin. I remember Bud's parents, Uncle George and Aunt Laura visiting often. I am also so sorry about Todd. Somehow I missed that notification. His death must have been so hard on everyone. But, you do have family and cousins far and wide that keep you in our memory and are sending sympathy and love.

George was the perfect Genleman with a fun dry Yankee humor! He was dedicated to his 4 legged patient and their 2 legged family.. Personally he has talked me down when my fur babies were ill!
God speed, my friend

I just mentioned this memory a couple of days ago My fondest memory with Dr. Looby was the day he was in care of my 23+ year old cat. I asked how long I could expect to have with my dear cat I had since I was a six year old little girl adopting the runt of the litter no one wanted me to take home. He recognized all the years with my beloved childhood pet and gently stated every day now is a gift. He taught the younger generation horse care while I observed his years of practice and wisdom. What a gift of time spent for his care of my animals. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him. My deepest sympathies to family, friends and colleagues.

I don't have a particular memory that stands out from any other. My Uncle Bud had a special place in my heart. I can't even say why. He was warm and kind. I also knew he had to be the smartest man on the planet! I offer my deepest sympathy in your loss. -Barb Z -

Dr. Looby's character made a lasting impression on me, helpful throughout my life. In 1971 I was one of his first employees in the clinic and also worked for the family. He trusted me with significant responsibility which has an amazing positive motivating effect. This would have been a trait of his with students that encouraged goodness and skill. Evident to me was his perpetual curiosity, desire to learn and readiness to share knowledge, always modeling good character and work habits to others. He was also an excellent writer, reporter and author. He embraced his profession, every opportunity afforded him and every aspect of life. Dr. Looby fully lived, optimizing, as able, every moment. No moss grew under his boots. A remarkable example of what a gift life is and every moment thereof.
Most sincerely,
Sally White
