Obituary of Aurore LaForest
Aurore LaForest, 93, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026 at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT, surrounded by the love of her family for whom she cared deeply. Aurore was born on June 21, 1932, in Slatersville, Rhode Island, to Adelard and Louisa (Mailhot) LeFebvre.
She lived a life defined by kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. Though small in stature, Aurore carried a strength and resilience that often surprised those around her, and always moved forward no matter what obstacles life placed in her path.
Lovingly known to almost everyone as Ma, Mother, or Meme, Aurore was the heart of her family. She had a gentle, caring nature and a sweetness that made everyone feel welcome. Her home was a place of comfort and refuge for those in need and was often filled with the smell of her legendary zucchini bread.
Aurore had a special love for Christmas, which she celebrated with unmatched enthusiasm. Her home would transform each year into a festive wonderland, with every surface adorned with villages and decorations, and even garland draped across the ceilings. It was a reflection of the joy she found in bringing happiness to others.
Her greatest joy came from her family, especially her young great-grandchildren, whose presence would light up her face in a way words cannot fully capture. When she was not surrounded by her children or family, she found contentment in life’s small, steady pleasures: the challenge of a word search, the patience of putting together a puzzle, and the simple joy of watching and feeding the squirrels outside her window.
Aurore is survived by her daughters, Marie Robbins and Shirley LaForest, and sons, Peter LaForest and George LaForest; her grandchildren, Louisia LeCompte, Zachary St. Jean, Daniel LaForest, Alisha St. Jean, and Katelyn St. Jean; and her six great-grandchildren, Charisma, Alexis, Skyler, Aarya, Kelly, and Leland. She is predeceased by her husband, Armand LaForest; her daughter, Eva LaForest; and her ten siblings.
Her presence will always be felt in the comfort of a welcoming home, in the pages of a well-loved word search, in the warmth of freshly baked zucchini bread, and in the glow of Christmas lights that fill a room with joy. She will be remembered for the love she gave so freely, and live on in everyone whose lives she touched.
