Obituary of Linda G. Surozenski
Linda G Surozenski, 76, of Woodstock, CT passed away May 6, 2026, at Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam, CT. She was the beloved wife of Joe Surozenski. She was born May 16, 1949 in Killingly, CT, daughter of the late Robert and Doris (Blanchette) Greene.
Linda enjoyed volunteering for the Bungay Fire Brigade selling hot dogs at the Woodstock Fair and helping at the chicken BBQ. She also volunteered at the annual festival at the Most Holy Trinity Church chicken BBQ and other church events. Linda went to middle school at St. James Catholic School in Killingly and attended Killingly High School. She attended many courses at Quinebaug Community College to obtain an associate's degree.
She worked at Bates Shoe and Uncle Bill's before volunteering at the Woodstock Elementary School. Due to her amazing ability to inspire and help she was hired by the school to work in Chapter 1, helping children get extra help with math and reading. Then she had a successful career at Crabtree & Evelyn. She started as the assistant to the training director and successfully worked her way to accessory manager and buyer at both the Woodstock and Boston offices. When the opportunity arose, she was able to live her dream and became the owner of Java Jive, in Woodstock, CT, feeding and sharing stories with a community that loved her. When she retired, she babysat her four grandchildren and enjoyed every moment of being a grandmother.
Everyone will remember Linda for her amazing cooking. She loved to feed people and share her recipes with everyone. She also loved the beach and racing, her favorite trip was the yearly adventure to Daytona with Joe. She also went to Charlotte, Las Vegas Speedway and Loudon, NH. However, her favorite race team was Team 28, where she was MVP always providing the team with amazing meals.
She leaves her husband of 46 years, Joe Surozenski; her daughter Tammy Marchini and husband David from Yorktown Heights, NY, her son William Schellinger from Thompson, CT; her grandsons Michael, William, Gianluca, and Vinni from Yorktown Heights, NY; her siblings Diane Hansen from, NJ, Donna Rose from CA, Carol Wadsworth from PA, Sharon Burkhart from CA, Dave Greene from CA, and Richard Greene from PA; and her brother and sister in law; Gary and Jeanne Surozenski from Thompson, CT as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Robert Greene from PA, sister Nancy Lockwood from CT.
A Calling Hour will be Friday, May 15, 2026 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM at Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam, CT. Burial to follow in West Thompson Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Food Pantry at St. Joseph's Church, Thompson CT.
