Obituary of Carey J. Auclair

Carey J. Auclair, age 64, of Brooklyn, CT, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026.

Carey lived in a group home, where he was fond of the staff and his housemates. When at home, Carey enjoyed watching funny TV shows, because he had a sense of humor and liked to laugh. He greeted people with a friendly smile, and he loved to talk, which is one of the reasons he enjoyed shopping trips, where he could buy stuff and engage with fellow customers. Carey loved to eat, which is why he enjoyed going to family gatherings, or out to lunch, or on outings to Dunkin. He especially enjoyed holidays and his birthday because they included lots more sweets, and sometimes, presents.

Carey also loved the staff at his day program, which he attended for years. Through the Network program, he worked as a janitor, attended a community experience program, and did volunteer work at a cat shelter and a food pantry. He also enjoyed listening to their informative talks, and doing science experiments and crafts, or just sitting in a recliner and listening to music. Carey loved their holiday celebrations - especially if he got to dress up in costume and sing; he had a good voice.

Like his siblings, Carey could be stubborn and opinionated, which made him challenging, but at his heart he was kind, funny, and loving.

Carey is survived by his brothers Kim, Carl and Michael, and his sister Joy.

For the most part, Carey enjoyed his life. While his early years were tumultuous, he lived most of his adult life in a stable group home. Thank you to the staff of that home, and his day program, for all that they did.

Carey was loved, and he will be missed.
