Obituary of Viola F. Phillips

Viola F. Phillips 74 of Woodstock Valley, died Tuesday after a courageous battle with leukemia, surrounded by her loving family at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. She was the beloved wife of Louis Phillips; they were married February 18, 1984. Viola married her first husband Milan Sevcik in 1954 he died in 1977. She was born December 15, 1934 in Skowhegan, Maine, daughter of the late Merle and Glenys (Stevens) Seekins. Viola was employed at Commerce Insurance in Webster, MA for over ten Years, and also had driven School Bus for the Town of Tolland. Her hobbies were sewing, knitting, quilting, gardening and loved to take care of her home. Viola enjoyed spending time with and caring for her family and would never put herself first. Her home was always the gathering place for family and friends. She leaves her husband Louis, sons: Paul Sevcik and his wife Amy of Stafford; John Sevcik and his wife Fawn of Dyer Brook, ME, a daughter: Linda Whitney and her husband Alan of Putnam; her siblings: Merline Lawrence of The Villages, FL; Jannette Hebert of Conway, SC; Cynthia Nicewicz of Vernon; Douglas Seekins of Tolland; Mary Cella of Manchester; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She also leaves her step daughters: Paula Phillips of New London; Bonnie Huntley of Norwich; Sharon Phillips of Norwich; Mollie Holloway of Montville, and six step grandchildren; she was predeceased by a sister, Gloria. Funeral service will be Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 12:00 (Noon) at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Calling hours will be Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service. Burial in Barlow Cemetery, Woodstock.
