Obituary of Joseph F. Carito

Joseph F. "Chubby" Carito, Jr., 72 of Thompson, died Sunday, January 3, 2010 at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam after an illness. He was the husband of the late Claire (Picard) Carito, she died in 1988. He was born April 3, 1937 in Thompson, son of the late Joseph F. and Marie (Daigle) Carito. He worked as a cabinetmaker at the former Risom Mill in Thompson for many years, retiring in 1973. He had made his home in Thompson most of his life, moving to the Pierce Home in Brooklyn three years ago. He was the Dog Warden and a constable for the Town of Thompson. He owned and operated the Old Stone House Game Farm in Thompson in the 1970's. In the 1980's he and his wife owned and operated Claire's Place, a restaurant in Thompson. He served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1957 as a cook. He leaves his sons: Joseph F. Carito, III and his wife Bernadette of Killingly; Ronald Carito of Southbridge, MA; three daughters: Debra Berube and her husband William of North Grosvenordale; Diana Sharples and her husband Kenneth of Thompson; Linda LePine of Brooklyn; a sister: Marlene Keefe of Amston, CT; 15 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Carito. Private graveside services will be held in ST Joseph Cemetery, North Grosvenordale. No calling hours.
