Obituary of Florence W. Johnson

Florence W. Johnson of West Woodstock, passed from this life on January 20, 2010 at Matulaitis Nursing Home. She was born April 18, 1922 to Edith G.(Waterhouse) and Shubael E. Watson. She grew up in Putnam and attended Putnam schools. After marriage to the late Herbert Johnson, they moved to West Woodstock to raise their four daughters, at the Bradford Corner Road home known as Petticoat Pastures. Florence worked for many years in the Insurance business in the Hartford and Thompson areas. She was a past member of the Woodstock Board of Education, and a Member of the East Woodstock Congregational Church. She enjoyed being involved in her church and community. She had many musical & artistic hobbies, from playing piano to painting. She was once a member of the Happy Hookers, making many beautiful rugs that she bestowed on friends and family, or gave as fund raisers for her church. Her love of travel took her across the US and to many places abroad. She leaves her daughters and their families; Peggy (Bergeron) Hyslop and husband Peter, Betty Johnson, Lynda Bergeron, Kathy Johnson and husband Ken Gardner. She enjoyed her time spent with her 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and her newest great-great grandson. She was predeceased by her brothers; Shubael, Ralph and Arthur Watson all from Putnam. A Memorial Service will be held Jan 30m 2010 at 11 am at East Woodstock Congregational Church, 220 Woodstock Road, East Woodstock, CT. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the EWCC Organ Fund, PO Box 156, East Woodstock, Ct. 06244. Arrangements by Smith and Walker Funeral Home, Putnam.
