Obituary of Frank W. Harrington

Frank W. Harrington age 85 of Southbury, CT formerly of Cranston, RI and Easton, CT entered into eternal rest Sunday August 22nd at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain. Born in Dayville, CT May 27, 1925, son of the late George W. Harrington and Beatrice (Sheldon) Harrington. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Shirley I. (Cornell) Harrington. Survivors also include 5 children, Richard F. Harrington of Cheshire, CT and his wife Debbie; Frank C. Harrington of Newtown, CT and his wife Marci; David L. Harrington of Newtown, CT and his wife Susan; Marilyn J. Harrington and her significant other Larry Edwards of Middletown, CT and Nancy H. Vitone and her husband George "Chip" of Stratford, CT. Frank is also survived by his loving sister Nora Johnson of Pomfret, CT; devoted sister-in-law Lois Harrington of Danielson, CT and cherished sister-in-law Ruth Harrington of Arlington, VA. Frank was a devoted grandfather to 10 grandchildren Rick Jr., Heather and husband Craig, Kaila, Candice, Kyle, Sean, Joey, Victoria, Sarah and John. He will be missed by cherished family friend James Ross. Frank was pre deceased by his brothers Retired Col. George F. Harrington USAF of Arlington, VA, Lawrence and William Harrington both of Dayville, CT. Frank was a veteran of World War II and served proudly as a Sgt. in the US Army Air Corp. Frank was the president of his class at Killingly HIgh School for all 4 years and excelled in academics basketball and baseball. Frank was also a Mason for over 50 years. Frank enjoyed playing banjo and entertained President Ronald Regan at the White House and many dignataries at the re-dedication of the Statue of Liberty when he played with the Easton Banjo Society. Frank loved all sports and was an avid Red Sox fan. Frank earned his electrical engineering degree from URI and was employed as a sales engineer for over 35 years at the General Electric Company. A memorial service will be held September 1st at 11:30 AM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home located at 148 Grove Street Putnam, CT with burial following at Quassett Cemetary in Woodstock, CT. Calling hour from 10:30AM until 11:30 AM. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Susan G.
