Richard Frizell

Obituary of Richard Noel Frizell

Richard Noel Frizell died peacefully in his home in Canterbury at the age of 92 on December 6, 2015. He is survived by his four children, Ruth, Joseph, Paul and Robert; four grand children Sage, Ryan, Rachel and her partner Tyler, Sarah and her husband Kim; and great granddaughter Olea. Noel was a long time resident of Canterbury, Connecticut and parishioner at Trinity Episcopal Church in Brooklyn, Connecticut. He was born December 20, 1922 in Victoria, British Columbia to Robert John and Mary Jane Best Frizell and is predeceased by his wife Evelyn Ester Howe and four siblings, George, William, Margaret and Robert Jr. Following a long, successful career with Ontario Hydro in Toronto and Westvaco Corporation in New York City, Noel retired to Canterbury and settled on a track of woodland which he named Tapiola after the god of the Finnish woods, Tapio. He found an invaluable source of local friendship in the Trinity Episcopal parish. His time at home was offset by sojourns to Ireland, New Zealand, Nova Scotia and British Colombia, reconnecting with life-long family and friends while researching three volumes of family history. In the first of these he boasted “I had the great good fortune of being launched into a close and loving family.” He concluded his reflections with “today there is more peace in my life than I have ever known.” Memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 12th at 11:00 a.m., Trinity Episcopal Church, Brooklyn, CT. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Trinity Episcopal Church, PO Box 276, Brooklyn, CT 06234. Share a memory at www.gagnonandcostellofh.com
