Marie Rita Antolik April 28, 1926 - April 28, 2009 BROOKLYN - Marie Rita Chicoine Antolik, 83, passed away surrounded by her loving family and the caring staff at St. Joseph Living Center in Willimantic on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Born in Wauregan on April 28, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Amede and Aurore (Frechette) Chicoine. Due to her mother's early passing, Rita was raised by her aunt and uncle, Valida and Leonard Baillargeon. She was the wife of the late Emil Antolik, whom she married on January 22, 1952 in Greenville, SC. Emil died on July 26, 2008.
When Rita was a child, she attended Sacred Heart School in Wauregan. She worked for the Cooper Industries for forty years. Upon retirement, she worked part time at McDonald's in Brooklyn. She, along with her husband, was one of the founders of Cha-Wi-Ma Coop, a Campground, where she served on the Board of Directors., and in many other positions. She was a Charter Member of NAFCA and a communicant of St. James Church, Danielson. She enjoyed shopping, despite her constant denial of ever owning anything new (particularly when Pop asked her where that outfit came from). She also travelled throughout the United States with her family. Her greatest passion in life was her grandchildren. No matter what they did, their reasons behind it, she welcomed them with open arms.
Rita was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to many people throughout her life and will remain their foundation for lifetimes to come. She leaves behind two daughters Glinda Stavrou and her husband Leonard Stavrou with whom she made her home, of Canterbury, and Laurie - Ann Wlaskiewicz and her companion Michael Alexander of Woodstock; along with two nieces that she raised Joanne Forsom and Michele Gasiorek; grandchildren Sean Lefevre and his wife Cherie Poirier, Brandi Rzeznikiewicz and her husband Scott, Kristopher Wlasziewicz, Jesse and Robyn Alexander; a great-granddaughter Madison Rzeznikiewicz; and her best friend Dorothy Champagne. She was predeceased by two brothers William (Pete) Chicoine and her twin brother Omer Chicoine; and four sisters Adele Chrabaszcz, Cecile Chicoine, Theresa Kamuda and Rita Chicoine.
Funeral from the Gagnon-Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds St., Danielson on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. James Church, Danielson. Burial following at Westfield Cemetery, Danielson. Calling hours are Thursday 7-9 pm.
