Obituary of Karl Edward Colburn

East Killingly - Karl Edward Colburn, 84, born April 9, 1925 in the Elliott section of Pomfret, CT, died on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at Hubbard Transition Care, Webster, MA. He was born April 9 1925 in Pomfret, son of the late James Benjamin and Eva Fraser Colburn. Husband of Edith Nelson Colburn, they were married for 51 years.

Karl was a lifelong resident of Woodstock; he has resided with his son Karl Jr. in East Killingly for the last year. He was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Karl operated a dairy farm "The Eastview Farm" in Woodstock for many years. He also worked for Kibbe Transportation for many years, after selling the dairy farm and told many stories of his time driving in New York. After retirement he became an ardent gardener and loved to spend time with his family.

He leaves his children: Karlene ST Onge and her husband Leonard of Russell, NY; John Colburn and his wife Linda of Woodstock; Kerstin Comtois and her husband Maurice of Woodstock; Karl Colburn, Jr. of East Killingly; seven grandchildren: Edward ST Onge; Donald ST Onge; Katherine Griffin; John Colburn, Jr.; Justin Colburn; Gretchen Clark; Timothy Gagne; great grandchildren: Jamie ST Onge; Nicholas ST Onge; Rachel Griffin; Madison Griffin; John Colburn, III; Allyson Colburn; Ashley Worthington; Joshua Clark; Gillian Gagne and Nathan Gagne, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings James, Lewis, Florence, Edith and May.

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, June 27, 2009 at 11:00 AM in the Evangelical Covenant Church, 24 Child Hill Road, Woodstock, CT 06281. Burial in Elmvale Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in his memory to the Evangelical Convenant Church or the American Cancer, 106 Route 32, Franklin, CT 06254. Arrangements by Smith and Walker Funeral Home, Putnam.
