Obituary of Harry C. Norman

Harry C. Norman, 88, of Woodstock, died Friday, July 3, 2009 at the Matulaitis Nursing Home in Putnam. He was the husband of Ruth A. C. (Johnson) Norman. He was born May 9, 1921 in Thompson, son of Carl and Edla Norman. He was a Horticulturist and operated the Ledgeside Greenhouses in Woodstock for over forty years. He was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Woodstock where he served on many boards and committees and had held many offices in the church. For many years he and his wife were active with the Word of Life Camp at Schroon Lake New York. They were in charge of the grounds of the camp and also dorm parents. Harry was also a member of the Gideon Northeast Camp and active for many years. He was devoted and caring husband, father grandfather and friend. He had a strong faith. He leaves in addition to his wife Ruth; two sons: Carl E. Norman and his wife Nancy of Woodstock; Clayton Norman and his wife Joy of New Milford; grandchildren: Jason and his wife Melissa of Elizabethtown, NJ; Michael Norman and his wife Jenn of Woodstock; Joanna Norman of Woodstock; great grandchildren: Drew, Aubrey and Raine. Predeceased by siblings: Oscar, Eric, Henry and Elsa. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 25, 2009 at 1:00 PM at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 24 Child Hill Road, Woodstock. Burial was in Elmvale Cemetery, Woodstock. In lieu of flowers donation may be made in his memory to the Gideon's, c/o Northeast Camp, 86 Crystal Pond Road, Eastford, CT 06242.
