Brooklyn - Bernard "Bernie" Garnier, Sr., 68, of Wauregan Road, Brooklyn, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. He was the husband of 46 years to Sharon (Lamphere) Garnier, they were married October 28, 1961 at ST Thomas Apostle Church in Plainfield, she died in 2007. He was born May 8, 1941 in Putnam, son of the late Alphonse H. Garnier and the late Irene (Kempf) Cotnoir. He made his home in Brooklyn most of his life, a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Bernie was a painter, employed by Electric Boat in Groton for the last 40 years, and was Head of the Paint Shop at the time of his death. He loved fishing, the Red Sox, and the New England Patriots. Bernie enjoyed refurbishing antique John Deere Tractors out and woodworking. Bernie's greatest joy was his family, he was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He leaves his two sons: Bernard A. Garnier, Jr.; David and his fiancee Karen of Sterling; his daughter: Becky Dutremble and her fiance Randy of Canterbury, three sisters: Barbara Jandreau of Colchester; Beverly Belanger of Lady Lake, FL; Donna Manseau and her husband Arthur of Brooklyn, grandchildren: Jennifer Garnier; Brandon Dutremble; Kaitlin Dutremble, two great grandchildren Abigail and Keira Rabideau. In addition to his wife he was predeceased by a son-in-law James Dutremble in 2002. The funeral will be Saturday July 25, 2009 at 9:15 AM from the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Church, 620 Wauregan Road, Brooklyn, CT. Calling Hours will Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, burial in Wauregan Cemetery, Wauregan.
