Obituary of Howard E. Shippee

Howard E. Shippee, 93, of High Street, Dayville, died Thursday, August 27, 2009 at home, with his family and friends by his side. He was the beloved husband of Genevieve (Williams) Shippee, they were married October 11, 1941 in Putnam. He was born July 4, 1916 in Killingly, son of the late Ray A. and Evelyn (Paine) Shippee. He had lived all his life in Dayville. He was a member of St. Albans Episcopal Church. Howard was a carpenter working with his father for several years. He also was a Park Ranger for the State of Connecticut and worked in the Maintenance Department at Hale Manufacturing in Ballouville and Stafford Springs, he retired in the 1980's. Howard enjoyed vegetable gardening, watching the Yankees and the UCONN Women's Basketball and working around his home. In addition to his wife Genevieve of 68 years, he leaves his daughter Lora Erskine of Dayville, grandchildren Ray Erskine of Dayville, Erica Erskine of Dayville, several friends, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his step-mother, Mary Burns, sister Ruth Shippee and son-in-law Theodore Erskine. The funeral will be Monday August 31, 2009 at 10:30 AM from the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at St. Albans Episcopal Church, 254 Broad Street Danielson. Calling Hours will be Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, burial in Westfield Cemetery, Danielson.
