Obituary of Myrtle C. Strand

Myrtle C. Strand, 87, of Webster and formerly of Thompson, died Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at the Hubbard Hospital. She was the wife of late Carl A. Strand, he died in 1976. She was born August 1, 1922 in Worcester, MA, daughter of the late Arthur and Edith (Bostrom) Peterson. She had made her home in Thompson on Norman Hill Road for over sixty years and the last two years she has resided at Christopher Heights in Webster. She was an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Woodstock, she served the church as a Sunday School Teacher, deaconess, member of the choir, an active member of Missions, Phoebe Circle and Ladies Aid. Myrtle was a "Prayer Warrior", she corresponded most of her life with Missionaries all over the world. She enjoyed knitting and later in life took up quilting. She was an avid Red Sox fan. Myrtle was a site manager at the Woodstock Senior Citizens. She leaves three sons: Carl Albert Strand, Jr. of Mystic, Peter Strand and his wife Rhonda of Uncasville; Philip Strand and his wife Susan of Woodstock; brother Rev. David A. Peterson and his wife Nancy of Cromwell; her grandchildren: Helen; Carl III; Tim; Randy: Ruth; Andrea; Derek; Daniel, and seven great grandchildren, she was predeceased by a daughter Constance Strange in 1996. A Memorial Service will be Saturday September 12, 2009 at 11:00 AM at the Evangelical Covenant Church, 24 Child Hill Road, Woodstock. Burial at a later date in Elmvale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Missions Fund of the Evangelical Covenant Church 24 Child Hill Road, Woodstock, CT 06281.
