I remember Bill well especially in the mid 30's when my aunt and cousin took me for a ride to Yale to visit Bill. He showed us the new phone with the ring in the phone and not separated in another ringing box. Later I would see him with his uncle in the print shop. We spoke about his walking trip and how many shoes he wore out. He used Bates shoes made in Webster, MA.

We lived 3 houses away from the Stockdales in the late 50's, early 60's and my sister used to babysit for them. I also remember the times Mr. Stockdale would come to PHS ans show his travel films. It was exciting to see the "exotic" places and the van they used to use to travel all that way in. I agree that Putnam was a wonderful place to come back to.

Mr. Stockdale and his wife used to come to my school in the 1950s at Sutton Memorial School to share stories about their cross-country journies by foot. They also brought their boxer dog....Taj Mahal. My sister and I also remembered that the dog had leather booties made for it. The following years they also brought more children with them! I want you all to know that it was one of my very fond memories of long ago.

I have fond memories of Mr. Stockdales school presentations of his far off travels. He was always so enthusiastic and made it fun to learn and hope someday you could travel off to such a place.
Josh was a year ahead of me in school and Heather use to babysit me. My sympathies go out to the families.

I am lucky to have so many good memories of my drives with Mom (Betty) and Grama (Ruby) to Putnam to visit with Aunt Mabel and Gladys, and all of my cousins, to smell that home made bread just out of the oven, and suddenly there would be a tall grinning wild man in the doorway calling out to us with great cheer. Bill seemed to like it a lot when he talked me into wearing authentic Russian Ukrainian garments which I borrowed from a friend and he actually had me stirring a pot of Borchst on the stove in Connie's kitchen.
Dear Connie and Cousins All, please know I would be there on Sunday if I could with Betty. I will be visiting her in her nursing home and will bring the announcement with me for Betty to keep. And I will broadcast very loudly so you can hear my thoughts and love for all of you.

I grew up in Putnam and was one of the school children that was in the audience when he came to show us his film/travel adventures. I always looked forward to them and still vividly remember the films and his witty sense of humor.
My sympathy goes out to Mr. Stockdale's family.
