Obituary of Doris A. Johnson
Doris "MA" Johnson, 86, of Fox Road, Putnam, died Thursday December 17, 2009 at the Day Kimball Hospital. She was the wife of the late John Murray, he died in WWII in 1944, she married Louis Johnson in 1946, he died in 1984. She was born March 18, 1923 in Putnam, CT, daughter of the late Ernest and Attie (Chase) Burton.
She had made her home in Putnam all her life, a member of the Congregational Church of Putnam. She was an avid vegetable and flower gardener and for many years she canned her vegetables. She always had time for her family. She was a member of the former Sunnyside Club.
She leaves her children: Carol Murray Langer of Alva, FL, Louis Johnson, Jr. of South Dennis, MA; Richard Johnson of Florence, MA; Patricia Ferrarese of Southbury; Robert A. Johnson of Putnam, a sister Elsie Stark of Attawaugan, 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren and her caregiver Cheryl Lewis and her family of Putnam. She was predeceased by a son Gerald "Ged" Johnson in 2008, a sister, Attie Chase; two brothers Walter Burton; Ernest Burton.
The Funeral Service will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. Calling hours Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial in Munyan Cemetery, Putnam. Donations may be made in her memory to the East Putnam Fire Department, 659 Providence Pike, Putnam, CT or Hospice of NECT, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.
