Obituary of Susan S.H. Goodwin

Susan S. H. Goodwin Susan Goodwin, 93, of Webster, MA, died February 15, 2010, at Webster Manor Nursing Home where she had been a resident since 2005. She was the wife of Edwin H. Goodwin, who died in 1996. Sue was born on April 13, 1916, in Winchester, MA, daughter of Alfred H. and Alice (Russell) Hildreth. She attended Abbott Academy and Smith College, where she majored in music and played the pipe organ, graduating in 1939. Sue and Ed were married in 1941 and eventually settled in Darien, CT, in 1951 where they raised their three sons, Jonathan, James, and Richard. Favorite family activities included sailing, skiing, and gardening. From 1970-1980 Sue worked as the gift and bridal consultant at the Whitney Shop in nearby New Canaan, CT. After retirement Sue and Ed moved to Grafton, VT, where they continued to ski, garden, and entertain for nearly 20 years. They were predeceased by their son Jonathan in 1987. In 2000 Sue sold the Vermont home and moved to Brooklyn, CT, living at Creamery Brook Retirement Village for nearly 5 years. She leaves her son Jim and his wife Linda of Pomfret, CT, and son Rick of Oakland, CA, and his wife Karen and their children Jeremy and Emily. A private service of burial will be held at a date to be determined. Donations may be made to the Christ Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 21, Pomfret, CT 06258.
