My deepest sympathies to you all at this deeply sad time. Mary has been a bright light in our community and a role model for many of us in how to serve one's community. Everything she did was done with grace, a listening ear and a smile. She made everyone feel appreciated while simultaneously giving her all to those around her. Although I did not know Mary very well, she was always most generous and kind She was a supporter of the arts in the community and for 11 years donated wine for an artists reception for the Artists in the Country show that helps to raise money for children with autism and special needs..in W. Woodstock. She was a generous, and kind woman, and as others have said, with a wonderful warm smile!

I loved seeing Mary at her store. She was always friendly and interested in what was going on with me and my family. She had a way of making me feel like what I had to say was the most important thing at that moment. That is a gift that most people can not even learn to do. I also remember when we were looking for a home here and my daughter had to use the bathroom (she was little then.) We went into her store and asked if they had a bathroom and they let us go into Mary and Dave's home! Needless to say, we were all very grateful. I haven't forgotten that. But, when I mentioned it to Mary once she did not rmember. I suppose those kind of actions were all too commonplace for her. She is also the one that gave me the idea to give extra money to my oil company for people who need assistance. That is an example of the spirit of generosity that lived inside her. God Bless you Mary!

I am so so sorry for your tragic loss. From reading about Mary and her activities in Pomfret it is clear that she was a vital part of the community, just as she was at Boston College. Dave, as I read the reflections about Mary, people remark on what a wonderful smile she had, that I believe drew people into her life along the way. If you have our Boston College 1967 yearbook (pg13) you will see that wonderful smile at an early age . It was taken at halftime on homecoming day during our senior year . Being class president, I was selected to hand the Roses to our Homecoming Queen and the picture captured the event for history.
She truly was a special person.
