My deepest sympathy to the Matsen Family during the time of Rev. Matsen's passing.
Wally was many things to many people and certainly "friend" to all. Our first encounter was while Wally was officiating at a friends wedding.I had secured the rings on the pillow and somehow the ribbon knotted. With an exasperated sigh he reached into his pocket to take out the clippers he claimed to carry for reasons such as this. Of course he announced devilishly that he thought it had be sabotaged deliberately! Our daughters attended Playschool together (Tina & Krista) and it was a common sight to see one of us taking the other's daughter home for continued play time.
Wally helped me through some very troubling times and taught me how to get back up and to stand on my own two feet. I will be eternally grateful for his guidance and friendship.
I pray that each of you finds the strength needed to accept God's will during these Holidays and the days to follow.
Sincerely,
Darlene Doyle Tamburrino
East Haven, Conn.

There are many memories about “Himself”....times of laughter when I swore I didn’t feed his dog people food, and there was his dog, Abby, sitting up looking at me for a handout! There were the years of Bible study, years of growth because of Wally’s ability to teach. Then there were times when he guided me during those difficult patches in a life. His life touched and enriched us all. I am a better person because of Wally, and I feel blessed to have known him!

To the Family of Rev. Matsen,I am very sorry for your loss. The first time I really met him was at a service when he was in East Haven. He gave such a moving Eulogy at a friend's funeral, as if her was friends with her for a long time. I respected him so much for that. His daughter was in Union School with my daughter so we spoke many times. The funniest was when I was in Bradly's near Christmas time. The Item "on sale" was not in when the doors opened. Well! He would not stand for that and, to make a long funny story short. We all walked out of there with our gifts. He was a rare and great person. I would have loved to have him as a priest in my parish.

Don, you and your family are in my heart and my prayers. I hope that, given time, the memories of your dad overwhelm the grief you are feeling today. Blessings, Kathleen

Wally and Lorene were very special to me. Wally officiated at both my son's weddings -- and brought much joy to our family. And Lorene called the day my son David moved to Vermont -- which was hard for me, and it was so nice of her to remember -- and care. God Bless you all. My sincere sympathy!!
