Obituary of Margaret Ann Weiler

Margaret Ann (Kubay) Weiler Margaret Ann Weiler, affectionately know as "Geechee," passed away Friday at Woodpecker Hill Nursing Home in Greene, RI, where a loving staff had been caring for her for the past seven years. She was born in Palm City, FL to Ida and Edward Kubay. She was the youngest of five siblings who survived many hard times, but made many happy memories playing amongst the Cabbage Palms. The children moved to Miami Beach when Margaret was 10, and would remain strongly dedicated to each other even as adults. They were often featured in local papers for their health and longevity due to their devotion of a consistent pattern of healthy living and most importantly their positive outlook on life. Their motto: What a Kubay Can't Do Can't be Done! She married Welton Tyler, who predeceased her, and has two daughters, Terry (Tyler) Fleming and Sharon (Tyler) Hawes. She worked at Jordan Marsh in Miami for 20 years. She worked very hard to raise her daughters as well as helping to raise her oldest grandson, Tommy. After retiring, Margaret moved to Okeechobee, FL with her husband, Karl Weiler, where she fulfilled her lifelong dream of owning horses and other animals, her favorite being her Chihuahua Keech. She became an avid barrel racer, and always looked forward to making the grand entry at the Rodeo. She loved to share her passion for horses with her family, and especially her granddaughter Michelle. She had a bumper sticker made for Terry which read, "Mom drives this ole car, Michelle rides a new horse!" She will be remembered for the many successful Kubay family gatherings she held in Okeechobee, where she managed to bring together family from around the country for good times and Geechee's delicious Hungarian cooking. Margaret and Karl later moved to the Bonifay, FL area, where she spent time, hours riding with her brother Ed and niece Susie, and carousing with her sister Dot. She and Karl also owned a leather business which they brought to local flea markets where she passed around her radiant smile to all her customers. When Karl passed away in 2003, Margaret moved to Connecticut to be with her daughters, but missed Florida and her family there very much. She was a very active lady who strongly believed in eating right and exercising. She loved country music and could dance to all the music a band could play. She also enjoyed arts and crafts, and making holiday decorations for herself and her family. In addition to her daughters, who both live in Brooklyn, CT, she is survived by her sisters Dorothy Carroll of Bonifay, FL and Yola Smith of Lorida, FL; her brother Edward Kubay of Monte Verde, FL; six grandchildren, Thomas Vincent of Plainfield, CT, Dawn DeOliveira, Michelle Sigfridson, Erika Fleming, and Tyler and Delaney Hawes, all of Brooklyn, CT; five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Lola Ashburn of North Miami Florida. Funeral services will be at a later date. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association CT Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100 Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
