Obituary of Reino T. Asikainen, Jr
Reino T. (Ray) Asikainen, Jr. 86 of Deerfield Road, Pomfret Center, CT, died Saturday at the Regency Heights in Killingly. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Swanson) Asikainen. He was born April 28, 1924 in Foster, RI, son of the late Reino T. and Ella E. (Ericsson) Asikainen, Sr. He came with his family in 1933 and made their home in East Thompson. He made his home in Thompson/ Pomfret area most of his life, spending 14 years in Conway, NH., returning to Pomfret in 2004. He was a graduate of Tourtellotte High School in 1942. Served in the US Navy Seabees, NCB4, Algiers, North Africa in WWII and Korean Wars. He worked at Pratt and Whitney and retired from CEM Corp in Dayville in 1989, working in Quality Control. He was a member of the VFW Post 11557, Conway, NH. He was a "Loving Husband, Father and Grandfather."
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Dorothy L. Asikainen, two sons: Edward E. (Sandra) Asikainen of Coventry, CT, Carl W. ( Dr. Samantha) Asikainen of Eastford, CT, four daughters: Karen E. Carpenter of Portland, ME, Joan L. Asikainen, Susan L. (John) Clough of Gilford, NH, Donna L. Lehtonen of Port Orchard, WA; a brother-in-law, Rolf and Irene Swanson of Thompson, CT, ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his twin sister, Lea E. Asikainen in 1990.
Calling Hours will be Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT.
