Obituary of John R. Cartier
John R."Jack" Cartier, 82 of Danielson, formerly of Woodstock, died Monday at the Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam. He was the beloved husband of Jeannette (Phaneuf) Cartier. They were married in 1949. He was born September 21, 1928 in Putnam, son of the late Edmund and Verna (Hilton) Cartier.
John worked in municipal building construction for many years as a Construction engineer. He was a proud member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. He enjoyed sailing, fishing, his hobbies included building model airplanes and boats. John and his wife traveled throughout the United States, Europe and enjoyed many cruises. For several years he was a Ham Radio operator, K1NW1. John quickly made friends wherever he traveled or where he made his home. John had made his home in Woodstock, Brewster on Cape Cod and in Honeymoon Park in Dunedin, FL, they returned to Connecticut in 2009.
He leaves his wife of 61 years Jeannette of Danielson; his children Judith Favreau and her husband Buzz of Woodstock Valley, CT, Jeffrey Cartier and his wife Alice of Harwich, MA; a brother Paul Cartier and his wife Betty Ann of Ormond Beach, FL ; his grandchildren Nicole Favreau, John Cartier, Jay Goodier and wife Kim, Jesse Goodier and wife Kathleen, Brad Favreau and wife Amy, Danielle Bedard and husband Matt, Wesley Cartier, Jamie Cartier, 4 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday at 12:00 PM (Noon) at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to Recreational Fund, Regency Heights of Danielson, 111 Westcott Road, Danielson, CT or the Day Kimball Hospital, PO Box 632, Putnam, CT 06260.
