Obituary of Armand E. Lafortune
Armand E. Lafortune, 77, of North Grosvenordale, CT died Friday, April 22, 2011 at Westview Health Care Center, where he had been a resident since December 2010. He was born August 3, 1933, the son of the late Leonidas and Alice (Lefebvre) Lafortune. Armand was the devoted and loving husband to Germaine T. (Demers) Lafortune for 45 years, until her death in 2003.
Armand served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and then served in the Army Reserves until 1961, when he was honorably discharged. He later worked for many years at Putnam Hertzl, Dimension Sailcloth and retired from Cranston Printworks. Armand was a member of the Thompson Senior Center and enjoyed playing cards with fellow members. He also enjoyed playing with the Wednesday night pitch league at the Putnam Elks Club.
Armand is survived by his son Larry Lafortune and his wife Linda of Putnam, CT; granddaughter Stephanie Lafortune and her boyfriend Matthew Parent and his cherished great-granddaughter, Kelsey Sky Parent all of Putnam, CT; sisters Loretta Mikkelson of FL and Estelle Hebert of Brooklyn, CT; brother Lucien Lafortune of Putnam, CT and a large extended family. Armand was predeceased by his wife, Germaine; daughter Claire Lafortune; brothers Raymond, Alfonse and Emile Lafortune and sister Juliette Perreault.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday, April 26, 2011, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, at Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. The Funeral will be Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 9 am, from Smith and Walker Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Church, 12 Main Street, North Grosvenordale, CT. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, North Grosvenordale, CT, with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004.
