December 13, 1934 – May 5, 2011 Dayville - Shirley Provencher, 76, of Lake Rd, passed away Thursday in the comfort of her home. Shirley fought a courageous battle with cancer. She was a brave participant in the Dana Farber clinical trials for 10 years. Shirley was the beloved wife of Richard Provencher, who survives her. Richard dedicated the past 18 months exclusively to take care of his wife, and insure her comfort. They were married October 1st 1953. Shirley was the youngest of 11 children. She was born at home on the family farm in Woodstock, CT to the late Leon & Antonia (Bigda) Zulkiewicz. Shirley dedicated her life to her family and her home. She was the bookkeeper for the family business for 50 years. Shirley loved flower gardening, nature, being outdoors, dancing, and she was very talented at crocheting. In addition to her Husband, Shirley is survived by her sons Richard and his wife Ellen Marie of Pomfret, Brian and Dale of Dayville; Kim and his fiancé April Landry of Grosvenordale, also her sisters Adele Jankot & Cecilia Desautels and brothers Leo & Fred. She was predeceased by siblings Joseph, Millie, Julie, Helen, Toni & Frank. In addition, Shirley also leaves a very special friend, Theresa Sutton of Fairhaven, Mass. Family & Friends are invited to visit with Shirley’s family Wednesday May 11th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Smith & Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street Putnam, CT.
