Obituary of Constance Wetherell Peshmalyan

Constance Wetherell Peshmalyan of South Woodstock died at Matulaitis Nursing Home on May 7, 2011. Born in Woodstock, CT on July 19, 1911, she was the daughter of George and Flora (Steere) Wetherell. She was a graduate of the Bouve-Boston School in Boston, MA and Rollins College in Winter Park, FL with degrees in physical education. Connie served as an instructor of physical education on the faculties of Rollins College, the University of Vermont in Burlington VT, the Walnut Hill School in Natick, MA, and Annhurst College in Woodstock, CT. As a member of the American Red Cross during World War II she was stationed in Wales and Germany. It was during that time that she met Major Baruyr Peshmalyan of Chicago, IL whom she married in Nuremberg, Germany in 1945. Baruyr predeceased her in 1979. Connie lived most of her life in Woodstock where she was an active member of the community, contributing to a number of boards, commissions, and associations including the Woodstock Academy Board of Trustees, the Woodstock Historical Society, and Roseland Cottage. For many years she operated the Wetherell Realty Company in Woodstock with her brother, Vernon Wetherell, and later with her nephew, Peter Wetherell. She had been a longtime member of the East Woodstock Congregational Church. Connie was predeceased by her brothers Vernon T. Wetherell, Franklin S. Wetherell, George A. Wetherell, and Presley H. Wetherell. She is survived by her nephews and nieces, Peter T. Wetherell of Woodstock, Jane (Wetherell) St.Onge of Putnam, CT, Presley H. Wetherell, Jr. of Sarasota, FL, Holly (Wetherell) Poh of Woodstock, Brian B. Wetherell of Atlanta, GA, and George Wetherell of Woodstock. She is also survived by several grand nieces and nephews. Calling Hours will be Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT. Burial will be private in Central Cemetery in Woodstock. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her memory to the East Woodstock Congregational Church Organ Fund, P.O. Box 156, East Woodstock CT 06244 or to the Muddy Brook Fire Department, P.O.
