Obituary of Doris L. Murray
Doris (Pope) Murray, 88, of Voluntown, died Thursday July 21, 2011 with her husband and daughter by her side. She was born June 9, 1923 in Plainfield, CT. She was the daughter of the late John and Donalda (Lemieux) Pope. Doris was a weaver for many of the area mills and for Ponemah Mills. She was a member of the Ekonk Grange for 63 years joining in 1948, she was a lifetime member of the Woodstock Fair and she played the piano and would play with the Old Time Fiddlers. She was married to her husband Frank Murray on September 29, 1985 at Whipples Chapel.
She leaves her husband Frank Murray of Voluntown, Her daughter Nancy Douglas of Oakdale, her brother Leo Pope and his wife Muriel of Eustis, FL, two nieces Jeannie LeMire and her husband Don of Savoy, MA and Sandy Wood and her husband David of Pittsfield, MA. She was predeceased by a son Lester Tanner who died in 1968.
A calling hour will be Monday July 25, 2011 from 10:00 to 11:00 am followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson. Followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery Danielson, CT.
