Obituary of Walter H. Schrump

Walter H. Schrump, 58, of Assonet, MA, died on July 21, 2011 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Hospice Center in Providence, RI. after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in New Haven, CT, on April 19, 1953 and was the son of the Rev. Leroy and Myra (Wengolin) Schrump.

He lived in Abington prior to joining the service, and was a member of the Abington Congregational Church. Walter was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served as a Sgt during the Vietnam War era. He enjoyed gardening, motorcycles and collecting lighthouses.

Walter was predeceased by his father, Leroy, and is survived by his mother, Myra, of Woodstock, CT, a daughter, Rene Gregoire, a granddaughter, Hannah, two grandsons, Brendon and Colin all of Plainfield, CT; five siblings, Nancy Baker of Schertz, TX, Susan Brown of Plainfield, CT, Dr. David Schrump of Potomac, MD, Donald Schrump of Putnam, CT, Erik Schrump of Sebastopol, CA, and many nieces and nephews.

A Graveside Service with full Military Honors was held July 23, 2011 in the Abington Cemetery, Pomfret Center, CT. with the Rev. Jonathan Scott officiating.
