Axel T. Johnson
August 23, 1914 - August 13, 2011
He was born in Woodstock, CT on August 23, 1914, son of the late Alfred & Henny (Strandberg) Johnson. He married Olga (Kallgren) on September 21, 1940 and they spent most of their life in Woodstock.
They moved to Covenant Village of Cromwell in 2009. A graduate of Woodstock Academy he was employed for many years by the Stillwater Worsted Co. in Woodstock and then in Harrisville, RI. He later worked in the research division of the American Optical Co. in Southbridge, MA. He served as a Trustee of Woodstock Academy from 1956-1965 and with the Woodstock Housing Authority from 1978-1988. He was a long time member of the Woodstock Evangelical Covenant Church and held various positions there including deacon, church board member and church treasurer.
In addition to his wife of 70+ years, he is survived by a son, Richard & his wife, Kristen, of Dunbarton, NH; a daughter, Barbara Barnes and her husband Jay of Arden Hills, MN; six grandchildren and their spouses and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters.
A Memorial Service will be Saturday, August 20, 2011at 3:00 pm in The Evangelical Covenant Church of Woodstock, 24 Child Hill Road, Woodstock, CT.
