Obituary of Marguerite Wetherbee
Marguerite June (Fifield) Wetherbee, 85, of Thompson, died Friday, at Village Manor Nursing Home in Plainfield. Peggy was born June 16, 1926, in Milford, Mass, to the late Harry and Lydia Fifield. She was one of six sets of twins born to the couple.
Peggy attended Thompson schools and graduated from Tourtellotte Memorial High School. She was a longtime member of Putnam Baptist Church. She married Edgar Wetherbee, Jr. on Aug. 31, 1946, at the First Congregational Church in Thompson. Before retirement, she worked for the Windham Area Community Action Program. Peggy was a dedicated social worker. She loved her job and her clients where extended family. She took great pride in her ability to help others.
In addition to her husband of 65 years, she is survived by her three children, Linda Collins, of Killingly, Edgar Wetherbee III and wife Cynthia, of Webster, Mass., and Diane Wetherbee, of Thompson; four grandchildren, Kathleen Collins and husband Jason Stradling, Dawn Shea and husband Richard, Nora Collins, and Melissa Wetherbee; and one great-grandson, Nathan Shea. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Elizabeth Desrosier (George), Paul Fifield (Lorraine), Franklin Fifield (Ruth, deceased), Eleanor Pepin (Richard) and Kendall Fifield (Margo), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by siblings Claire Takessian (John), Della Lewis (George), Harriet Chenette (Arthur, surviving), Helen Fontaine (Ernest), Charlotte LaPalme (Joseph), Harry Fifield (Sarah), David Fifield (Kazuko, surviving), Richard Fifield and Benjamin Fifield.
Graveside service will be Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at 3:00 PM in the West Thompson Cemetery, Route 12, Thompson, CT. The family would like friends and family to please join together following the Graveside for a repast in honor of Peggy's beautiful spirit and life at 4:00 PM in the Putnam Baptist Church, 170 Church Street, Putnam, CT.
