Obituary of Chester Edward Corey

Chester E. Corey of Putnam. He was surrounded by his loving wife and children when he went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 20, 2012. Born December 26, 1944 to Noella (Lavarierre) Bennett and Arthur Corey. He was raised by his mother and step-father, Herbert Bennett, Sr. He lived in Putnam all his life graduating from Putnam High in 1963. He started the Bargain Buyer with his first wife, Phyllis in 1970, a local publication in Rhode Island.

He is survived by his wife Sandra Corey whom he married in 1998. Also surviving is his daughter Susan Corey of Danielson and his son Richard Corey of Putnam, 4 step-children, Raymond Bennett of Plainfield, David Bennett of Brooklyn, Crystal Utz of Springfield, MA., and Matthew Delaere of Putnam. He is also survived by a sister, Elaine Eastman and her husband Donald of Attawaugan, brothers Harvey Bennett of Putnam, Raymond Bennett and his wife Charlene of Danielson, Leonard Bennett and his wife Michelle of Thompson, CT, and Michael Bennett and his wife Joan of Woodstock; Grandchildren, David & Ethan Bennett of Plainfield and Derek & Jordan Bennett of Brooklyn. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was an active member of Hope Community Church in Putnam, having served as a Trustee, Treasurer and many other positions in the church. He was predeceased by his first wife Phyllis (Bibeault) Corey in 1989, by his parents and two brothers, Herbert II and Robert (Pete) Bennett. He was a member of the Burrillville Lions Club since 1977. Serving as president in 1984-85 and 1988-89. He also was a past president of the Pascoag Chamber of Commerce, and past president of the Burrillville Chamber of Commerce. He loved cruising with his wife Sandra and saw many Caribbean Islands plus Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and the Panama Canal. He fought a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Funeral Service will be Wednesday at 11:00 AM in Hope Community Church, 25 Kennedy Dr., Putnam. Calling Hours Tuesday 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove St, Putnam.
