Obituary of Doris A. Ashley

Pomfret - Doris A. Ashley, 91, of Pomfret, formerly of Dartmouth, MA, died Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at ST Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, MA. Doris was born May 19, 1920 in Fall River, MA. Daughter of the late Harry and Mary "May" (Day) Best. She worked as a Bookkeeper in New Bedford. Doris was a Quaker and a member of the Society of Friends Sandwich Quarter. She loved to help others, knit and play cards. Doris was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children: Jonathan Ashley of N. Dartmouth, MA, Peter Ashley and his wife Priscilla of S. Dartmouth, MA, Karen Franculli and her husband Tony of Pomfret Center, CT, grandchildren: Peter, Mathew, Sarah, Michael, Paul, David, Michael, Samantha, Ashley; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Doris was predeceased by a son, Leland Ashley and a brother, Robert Best. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, May 12, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home, 148 Grove Street, Putnam, CT.
