I met Russell when I joined MBFD. Recently, he and I were talking about his photo displayed at the Belding Mill entry as an employee rep.. This led to discussion of the '55 Flood. He told me of climbing to the mill roof with buckets off water to douse fires started by the airborne magnesium particles from the exploding plant nearby....I could not imagine such bravery..many of his co-workers fled....and I saw it as a child standing on Murphy Hill at a distance...horrified. I told him how much I admired his bravery.
