Obituary of John J. Demars

Dayville - John J. Demars, 88, of Dayville died Sunday, October 4, 2015 at Davis Place in Danielson. John was born on January 23, 1927 in New York City, NY, son of the late Louis and Barbara (Barrette) Demars. He was a veteran serving with the US Navy. He served during WWII on the ships, USS Brooklyn CL-40, USS Portsmouth CL-102, USS Fargo CL-106, USS Dyess DDR-880, USS Preston DD-795, and the USS Acadia AD-23. He Worked for Whitin Machine Works Company, the First National Store as a meat cutter, Bryant Electric Company and Kaman Aerospace Company, working in the Metal Prep Department for 31 Years. He was the husband of Minnie A. (Dupont) Demars, They were married on June 6, 1953, she died on July 11, 1990. He was a Communicant of St. Joseph Church, Dayville. He was a life member of the VFW Post #2650, the US Navy Cruiser & Sailors Association, the US Navy memorial Foundation, the Navy League of the United States, the USS Portsmouth Association, the USS Fargo Association, a charter member of the World War Two Memorial in Washington, DC, was an AARP member, Quinebaug Valley Senior Citizens, and a member of the Putnam Travelers Club, traveling to his ships reunions. He leaves his children Richard J. Demars of Attawaugan, Cheryl A. Chatelle and her husband Alan of Danielson, grandchildren Jonathan, Rich, Roxanne, great grandchildren Nick, Jr. and Ailise. Predeceased by siblings, Hector H. Demars, Alfred Demars and Josephine Stanovich, grandson Nick Chatelle, he died in 2008. The Funeral will be Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 9:00 AM from the Gagnon and Costello Funeral Home, 33 Reynolds Street, Danielson, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Church, 350 Hartford Pike, Dayville, CT. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery Dayville, with Military Honors.
