Oh my goodness, I just learned this very sad news. So many good times hanging out with Chuck and the gang on Lake Webster. He was always such a gentleman, always so nice and fun to be around. We moved away, ran into him once in Putnam years ago and as always, it was great seeing him. I'm so sorry I'm years late in offering condolences.

What a man you were Chuck, and what an AWESOME life you got to live!! I remember watching you line up so many times among John Force, and Al Hoffman. You provided me with some of my most cherished memories. I was watching that day, and I'll NEVER forget the day you broke that 4 second barrier, and snatched that money out from under John Force. He had nothing but respect and love for you. My only regret was that I never got to meet you. Rest in Paradise, Chuck!!

Erica,
My heart aches for you loss. You always spoke so highly of your dad. I can remember the smile that would come across your face as you would tell stories of playing at the track during the summer. Even at our young age I could tell how much he meant to you. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

I was always a huge fan of Chuck. When I was a kid, I had a t-shirt that had his car on it. I'd always have pretend drag racing events in my front yard, of course all I had was a bicycle, but when I'd get to my funny car class, I was always Chuck Etchells. I'm saddened and shocked, but I know you're winning championships on God's race track now. Rest in peace champ, you will be missed.

Dear Erica,
I am very sorry for your loss. I will always remember our family gatherings at the holiday times. We always had great times. He was so good spending a lot of time with Harry and myself at Gator Nationals. We had one of the best conversations we ever had there, as well as the last time we saw each other.
Chuck is now with his parents and will be happy now.

I only knew Chuck from the drag races and spoke to him just a few times, but I watched his career in funny car very closely and always really admired him. He was more humble than most racers and yet had accomplished some much both in racing and with the business. Very sad today about his passing , it has really made thousands of people think about what a great life he had, our prayers are with the family. God bless.

Karen & Gary, In many ways, it does not seem so long ago that the four of us played together as kids, on the ponies, in the pasture playing baseball, swimming in the pool, on the mini-bikes & tinkering on the hot rods! But, alas it has been decades and now a part of that has come to a close. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Sincerely, Doug

Empire Dragwy upstate NY it was a Sunday, the race was over and Chuck asked us out We drove up a circular driveway of white stone to the restaurant. there were double doors inside and as it was a dry county and a Sunday, we were ushered into the private dining room. the food was delicious and everyone was happy. Chuck ordered 'cherries jubilee' for dessert and the staff lit the cherries on fire. spectacular. I will never forget him
