Obituary of Evelyn Anna Kolat
Evelyn Anna Kolat, 93, passed away October 26, 2016 at the Day Kimball Hospital after a short illness. Evelyn was born August 29, 1923 in West Warren, MA, daughter of Frank and Anna Szmist. She was predeceased by her husband Alphonse “Chela” Kolat March 11, 2015. Evelyn and Al were married November 22, 1947 at St. James Church in Danielson, CT. They spent their married life living in Putnam. She was a communicant of St. Mary Church of the Visitation in Putnam, CT.
Evelyn is survived by her sister Edna Lavallee of Danielson and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Theodore, and four sisters, Mary, Irene, Henrietta and Caroline. Evelyn moved to Danielson at the age of eight with her family. She attended St. James School and Killingly High School in Danielson. She spent all of her adult life working at Arrow Hart in Brooklyn, CT. Evelyn was a wonderful baker and a skilled knitter. Her family and friends were recipients of the many beautiful handmade sweaters, along with all the delicious baked goods. She especially loved making baby sweater sets and blankets. Evelyn was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and UCONN Women's and Men's Basketball. Over the years, exercising with her good friends at midtown fitness was a weekly event. She will be sadly missed by all of us who loved her.
Calling hours will be Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 9:00 to 10:30 AM at the Smith and Walker Funeral Home 148 Grove Street, Putnam, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Church of the Visitation, 218 Providence Street, Putnam.
