Although the Eastford Independent Fire Company #1, Inc, was not acknowledged in Richard's obituary or at the graveside service, I as President send this message to Richard and his family. Dear Richard - Please accept our thoughts and prayers from a volunteer fire department you served so well for many years. I remember you joining in 1988 all full of energy and wanting to help. Due to your commitment to us and the town, you moved up quickly through the ranks serving as Lieutenant from 1990-1996. You worked tirelessly at all our fundraisers - the first to arrive and the last to leave. I was there, as was the EIFC the night there was a major structure fire we responded to. You worked diligently alongside other volunteers. You were caught by the press in photo. You were working so hard you literally made "steam" off the top of your head. That was an inside joke for a long time. We were very proud to have you as part of us for those years. Dear Family: This may be a side of Richard you didn't know. Generosity, commitment, personality, "hyper" absolutely, that was Richard. The EIFC has flown our flag in his honor and he will be mentioned in the town's "Communicator". Rest in Peace, Richard. From your EIFC family - Sincerely, Jeannine Spink, President, EMS Captain.
